WHO NEEDS A BUILDING PERMIT?

Any work that is being done to your house with the exception of painting and roof replacement when NO wood is being replaced requires a building permit.

All commercial work regardless of size of the project requires a building permit.

WHERE DO I OBTAIN A PERMIT?

A permit may be obtained from the Department of Planning, Engineering, & Permits, 2nd Floor, City Hall Room 210. Telephone: 254-2211

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

STEPS FOR OBTAINING A PERMIT

  1. The property's address must be given to and verified by engineering staff at front counter.
  2. Zoning and land use requirements such as zoning, land slide area, flood plain, Design Review District, and historic area regulations must be reviewed by zoning staff at front counter.
  3. After zoning and land use requirements are approved by zoning staff person plans and applicant are sent to Inspections plan review staff. If plans are not approved by zoning staff, applicant is counseled by zoning staff on the requirements for approval.
  4. A plan review person forwards one (1) set of the plans to the Planning Division, one (1) set of to Permits Division and one (1) set to the Fire Department.
  5. A plan review letter containing all code review will be mailed to the applicant. If zoning problems are found during the plan review stage, the zoning items will be added to the letter sent to the applicant. Applicant or architect brings in revised plans for review.
  6. If all items have been corrected, the applicant is notified that the permit is ready to be issued.
  7. The permit is issued and a copy of the permit is given to the contractor along wiht the yellow job card.

REVIEW/INSPECTION STANDARDS

The Planning Division will review for Zoning and other zoning and planning regulations. If all zoning and planning regulations are approved, the zoning personnel will sign off on the plans and forward comments to the original plan review person.
